Its like an opera, but with cars and no singing

So every now and then I realize I've attended one to many operas, listened to too much classical music, or watched a film with subtitles. Obviously with this much culture I'm a bit unbalanced and require demolition derbies to provide the equilibrium that is a staple to a healthy life.

(Please note the West Virginia trucker hat)

You can read the shirt, but the hat says, "Proud to be a Christian"

Winter is a time of love

Sledding is great and all, but there is definite room for improvement.
One improvement we discovered is a little tweak called "Battle Sledding".
The whole premise is to be at the bottom of the hill on a sled. Whether or not it was the sled you were originally on doesn't matter, in fact, preferably you're not on your original sled.
Truthfully what I just said doesn't really mean anything, you really just use that as a premise to have a snowy brawl.

A great action shot: Those are my legs in the middle and that is my friend Jill's head being smashed into the sled.

I Enjoyed the Weather

California is warm. All in favor of moving Utah to the coast say "aye".
Ya, I thought so, unanimous in the affirmative from Utah residents and a resounding silence from Californians. (Can you imagine if Utah and California got married? It would produce residents with the pride and superiority complex of Californians and the self-righteousness of Utahns. We'd be unstoppable.)

On Balboa Island, just walking. My hair was super long and unkempt.

Taking the ferry to Balboa Island. You have no idea how frightening the simple prospect of riding a ferry is to an individual who can't swim.

For fans of Arrested Development, a frozen banana stand. "There's always money in the banana stand."

Things That Happen (Colorado)

A lot of fun things happen in this world, here are some that happened in Colorado when I was present.
Chris and I journeyed to Aspen, CO to the Jazz Aspen Snowmass music festival to see Nickel Creek and Ben Harper. Road trip to see a concert = Hardcore.

Please note the dark forbidding skies. Ya, it rained. Concert in the rain = Hardcore.

This was the grass we sat on until it got real wet.

Making fun of a bear who has a questionable orientation.
We ended up sleeping in our car that night, it was a unique experience to wake up and be driving less than twenty seconds later. Also, Charleston Chews for breakfast, but that wasn't really a unique experience.
This was in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Glenwood Springs. We can only assume this bus is promoting drinking and drug use while pregnant.

Colorado: Two thumbs up.

The Square

I pay homage to the square,
it is my past, it is my present,
it is my future.
I can't escape, I don't want to escape its four walls.

I Meet Musical People

I meet musical people, people I think everyone should know and love, but I'll understand if you don't know these people, and I forgive you. That being said, I'm about to give the names of both of these gentlemen and you'll be in the know and thus, held accountable to discover their music (and love it, if just out of fear of me thinking you're uncultured and tasteless)
January 16th 2008: I, along with my friends Janna and Carol Ann met Eric Hutchinson. Eric is from Washington D.C. and perhaps the most soulful white man I have ever heard; traces of Stevie Wonder for sure. He opened for a far less talented band and the crowd was definitely not there to see him, but he still gave a stellar performance.
I had seen Eric open for G. Love and Special Sauce (another band you're now accountable for!) two years ago to the week at the Suede in Park City where besides being floored by his music was absolutely charmed by his dry sense of humor. I had him sign a CD (the one I am holding in the photo) he wrote, "Logan, 2 year anniversary." I love that man.

October 20th 2007: I, Chris Tobler, Kristen, Carol Ann and her brother Adam, met Josh Ritter. This was a big deal. I can think of no other artist currently making music that I cherish more than Josh Ritter. After an in-store performance at the Record Exchange in Boise, ID, we had the great pleasure of meeting the man behind the music that has been defining my life for the past year and a half. But as a testament to the great man that he is, the pleasure seemed to be all Josh Ritter's.
He took time to talk to each of us individually, he asked questions, and was quite possibly the most pleasant and congenial man on earth. He asked what I was studying in school (Geospatial Intelligence), had me explain it, and proceeded to sign my CD, "Logan, may all your geos be spatial."
He also gave me a hug.
I've never meet a happier man in my life and who could blame him!? He was living his dream and at that point so was I. Just two guys talking, living their dreams, simple.

New Year = New Blog

Hey, so I've decided that as much as I love my other blog (and I'll still primarily post on that blog). I wanted to be able to share personal experiences (nothing corny, just funny (hopefully)). I felt if I had started doing that on my other blog I would betray its feeling and purpose. So heres to a new experiment.
